Carter G Woodson

An American historian, author, journalist, and founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), he pioneered the study of African diaspora and Black history. Creator of The Journal of Negro History and initiator of "Negro History Week," which evolved into Black History Month. A leading figure in Afrocentrism, he centered the study of history around people of African descent.
